The photograph was probably taken in the mid 1930’s, and was the basis for the painting Hugh made of the house at around the same time.
Hugh lived with his bother Alex and His sister-in-law Elizabeth from 1938 to 1942 or 1943 except for a six month period.

When World War II broke out in 1939, Hugh’s brothers, Jeffrey and Victor, were in England on a Cricket tour. They managed to get out of England and arrived in New York via Montréal. They stayed with Alex while awaiting a ship home to Trinidad
The painting in the background is from 1938. The photograph probably dates from circa 1943 when he was in the commerce Street apartment.

Hugh’s parents visited him in 1951. This picture was taken at Trinidale at that time.
In 1949 Arthur and Hugh purchased land in the country near Shrub Oak N.Y. they built a garage first then built a house in stages.

The photo was taken on the lawn of Mon Valmont, the family home during the celebration of A.V. and Ada Kate’s 50th wedding anniversary. It was the first time Hugh had returned to Trinidad since 1938.
Hugh is seen here with brother Jeffrey and Joan Donnelley, who came to Trinidad with Daphne in 1964 to help her to persuade him to leave Trinidad for New York.
The Perez’s Hugh’s longtime friends and his landlords in fist in Greenwich Village when he returned to New York in the winter of 1964 then in their house in Queens from December 1964 until 1975. The photo was taken between 1968 and 1972.
The picture was probably taken at one of the exhibitions he had at the seniors’ centre near where he was living in Queens 1979 or 1980
