When World War II broke out in 1939, Hugh’s brothers, Jeffrey and Victor, were in England on a Cricket tour. They managed to get out of England and arrived in New York via Montréal. They stayed with Alex while awaiting a ship home to Trinidad

The photo was taken on the lawn of Mon Valmont, the family home during the celebration of A.V. and Ada Kate’s 50th wedding anniversary. It was the first time Hugh had returned to Trinidad since 1938.
This photo was taken in Montreal during A.V.’s 1957 visit.

Hugh is seen here with brother Jeffrey and Joan Donnelley, who came to Trinidad with Daphne in 1964 to help her to persuade him to leave Trinidad for New York.
